SGSI Non-Profit Organization
Supporting Sustainability and Design

Our Mission
SGSI aims to serve as a pivotal resource for the emerging generation of sustainable designers by conducting interviews with experts in fashion design, sustainability, and the green circular economy. Additionally, SGSI engages in community action by supporting women; we organize thrift initiatives to provide women’s shelters with professional attire, assisting women in presenting themselves confidently for job interviews. Our objective is to address the inquiries of newcomers in the fashion industry and foster the future of green living through our insightful interviews on sustainability and design, coupled with our dedicated support for women’s shelters

Join Us in Making a Difference with Our Communities
01
Interviews & Podcast
At SGSI we engage with experts and professors from the realms of fashion design, sustainability, green economy and technology, and sustainable design, conducting interviews that are shared on our website and via our podcast. These interviews, whether presented as an hour-long video or audio recording, serve as valuable resources for aspiring designers and environmentalists, providing insight and applicable knowledge for their journeys ahead.
02
Fosterting
The other branch of SGSI is devoted to fostering positive change within communities. We organize thrifting initiatives to donate clothing to women's shelters. Women residing in these shelters can specify their attire needs for job interviews or other events through a Google form. Additionally, we provide a variety of clothing donations to shelters at large. Our efforts are propelled by the dedication of student volunteers and partnerships with various thrift stores, alongside fundraising activities that finance our donations. We warmly invite you to contribute your time or financial support to help us advance our cause

About Me
My name is Sophia Lynch
I'm a fashion design student at NEFDA and a high school student with a passion for sustainability. I dedicate 8-10 hours a week to fashion design classes and am working diligently to develop my portfolio, which features embroidery, patchwork, beadwork, technical corset design, knitting, crocheting, jewelry making, painting, and sculpture—all created from sustainable materials. I have taken classes at the School of Visual Arts, One River Art School, Colombia, Wharton, and participated in a global student climate and sustainability dialogue at the National Conservation and Training Center. Additionally, I have gained practical experience through internships at the Westchester Parks Foundation and the Green Schools Alliance. I am also a leader in my school's Enviro Club and Envirothon team, as well as an active member of the Art and Fashion Sustainability Club. Currently, I am working on my AP 3D portfolio through an independent study program titled 'Sustainable Fashion Runway,' where I am exploring textiles and various sustainable design methods.
